There is no security in this Earth. Only opportunity.

About Shivani Patel

She has been trained as a consultant orthodontist. Working from the well reputed e11even Dental, Harley Street, London and Blandy House in Henley, she enjoys treatment planning patients requiring multidisciplinary care centred around orthodontics. She is also the principal partner for Park Lane Orthodontics in Reading.

She qualified as a dentist at the United Medical and Dental Schools in London (Guys Hospital) and then studied orthodontics at the Royal London Hospital to attain her Membership in Orthodontics from the Royal College of Surgeons.

She gained a Fellowship in Orthodontics by the Royal College of Surgeons after further clinical training ay Guys Hospital and the Queen Victrola Hospital, West Sussex. This is where she gained experience in treating patients requiring multidisciplinary care such as jaw surgery and cleft lip and palate.

She is a big believer in face driven dentistry and always strives to work closely with her hand picked periodontal, restorative and oral surgery teams to ensure her patients attain the highest standard of dental wellness- function and aesthetics.

Awards

Shivani is a multi award winning specialist (Aesthetic Dentistry, Dentistry and Private Dental Awards 2011-2022), Diamond Apex Invisalign provider and named in the Dentistry Top 50,2022 UK.

One of her earlier awards in her career was being the runner up in the Professional category in the Asian Women of Achievement Award. She was recognised for her contribution to the profession of Dentistry and her community work that she had been doing from a young age of 14 years in Kenya.

She is now a part of the judging panel for the prestigious Private Dentistry Awards and works alongside well respected members of the dental fraternity to recognise individuals and practices upcoming with talent and innovation.

Charity Work

Being born and raised in Kenya, Shivani has watched her parents do a lot of charity work through various organisations. From a young age Shivani was exposed to medical camps where she accompanied and participated with her parents. She was part of the front line staff aiding at the hospital in Nairobi after the American Embassy was bombed in 1998 and when the bombing occurred in London in 2005.

Her true independent charity journey started when she was awarded a travel scholarship by the Royal London Hospital Alumni for achieving the highest grades in my MSc examinations.

Rather than observing renowned orthodontists abroad she decided she wanted to do something different, and to make an impact however small on peoples lives.

So she set out looking for unusual ideas... she decided to partner with Christian Relief Uganda and carried out a mission for 3 weeks on the islands of lake Victoria. Her grandfather and father were also born in Uganda and therefore she has a deep emotional connection to East Africa. After all charity begins at home...

Charity Work

It doesn’t stop there. Part of Shivani's consultant training involved the management of cleft lip and palate so when Smile Train came to the UK a decade ago they seeked out Shivani through the AWA and e11even dental. This decade long partnership and various charity events to date has lead to raising close to £70,000, along with spending time in India teaching clinicians how to dentally manage patients affected by this syndrome.

Her biggest challenge to date is now creating a new Eco sustainable e11even dental. She will be designing the new e11even so that it is a practice that is not only eco sustainable but also all artefacts displayed in the practice will highlight the practices attitude towards supporting the communities in Kenya and LDEs. So watch this space!

If the only prayer you ever say in your life is thank you. that will be enough.

Education is a progressive discovery of our own ignorance.

Contributing to the Profession

Set aside her clinical commitments she will often be seen lecturing on FMC organised Dentistry conferences and is also a member of the editorial board and contributor to the Clinical Dentistry, Private Dentistry and Dentistry magazines which has a wide UK based and international readership.

She is also invited regularly to schools so that children at an early age can be educated on the importance of dental health and the importance of braces in creating confident smiles with great long term benefits

With her love of teaching and interest in the future growth of the profession, Shivani lectures to orthodontic postgraduates (The Royal London Hospital), orthodontic therapists at UCLAN and GKT and she examines for the Royal College of Surgeons and medical students at the St Barts Hospital, London. She is also honoured to be on the interview panel for students entering at the BDS level at the GKT Dental Institute.

There is little value for striving for growth if we cannot appreciate our progress.

Passions

Shivani has always felt strongly that one should always take time away from their professional life and learn to grow and follow interests outside of Dentistry. She has from a very young age had a passion for dancing and have ensured that she made time to continue this skill she has acquired over the years.

Bharatnatyam is a form of South Indian classical temple dancing. She has been learning this form of dancing since she was 10 years old at the Kamini’s School of Indian Dance in Kenya. Her graduation (Arangetrum) was a maiden performance for 2 hours in front of a large audience.

She continued to do a post diploma in this form of dance combined with Kanartik Music from the Bharati Vidya Bhavan in West London. She now learns and performs along with her daughter at the Srishti School in North London.

The noblest art is that of making others happy. So smile.

My Patients are most important to me, and I know that I cannot succeed unless they are satisfied with my work. I am most proud of the fact that my daily clinical practice is based on treatment recommendations that are research-based, honest, and conservative.
